Grand Rapids Chinese Language School was initially founded in 1997 by three passionate mothers from the Chinese community in West Michigan, aiming to meet the Chinese educational needs of children. After initial development, the school gradually grew into a non-profit organization dedicated to providing high-quality Chinese language and cultural education, allowing students of all ages and backgrounds to immerse themselves in learning. For over thirty years, we have strived to serve the Chinese community in West Michigan by offering traditional language courses and a variety of cultural education resources and activities.

Currently, Grand Rapids Chinese Language School's curriculum includes Chinese courses from pre-kindergarten to fifth grade, Chinese as a Second Language (CSL) courses, and adult Chinese classes. Additionally, we offer various interest classes such as traditional Chinese ink painting, martial arts, children's programming, and mathematics. Whether you are a beginner or have some Chinese foundation, Grand Rapids Chinese Language School warmly welcomes you to experience our classes. We offer two free trial classes, allowing you to personally experience our teaching quality and learning environment. In this increasingly interconnected world, we recognize the immense value of face-to-face learning. Especially in the West Michigan area, the advantages of in-person Chinese classes, which are a distinctive feature of Grand Rapids Chinese Language School, are irreplaceable. You will have the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the language environment, make new friends, and build strong connections with our teachers and classmates. Grand Rapids Chinese Language School offers a wide range of Chinese language courses and cultural interest classes tailored to students' different levels and needs. We assess students' skills upon enrollment to ensure they are placed in the most suitable class for optimal learning outcomes.

Language Courses:

  • Kindergarten, 1st grade to 9th grade, AP classes
  • CSL Beginner, CSL Intermediate
  • Adult Beginner, Adult Intermediate, Adult Advanced

Elective Cultural Interest Classes:

  • Beginner Mathematics, AMC8
  • HSK Chinese Proficiency Test
  • Programming - Scratch
  • Traditional Chinese Culture
  • Pinyin
  • Chinese Martial Arts
  • Simple Drawing and Crafts, Art and Painting, Traditional Chinese Ink Painting
  • Chinese Homework Tutoring

Each semester is generally 15 weeks, with the following course options:

  • Option 1: 2 hours of Chinese classes per week + 1 hour of elective classes per week
  • Option 2: 2 hours of Chinese classes per week
  • Option 3: 1 hour of elective classes per week

As a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Chinese education and culture, we offer affordable prices to community members. For those who choose 2 hours of Chinese classes and 1 hour of elective classes per week, the cost is only $7.6 per hour!
